We headed down to take care of the dogs’ needs and for Harry to change out of the Shepherd sweater. I checked my watch. “It’s almost noon. I have two tapings this afternoon. Why don’t I see if they can do them now, since they don’t seem to tape anyone at the moment? You can grab us some lunch. The dogs can stay with me. Then we can take a few minutes to talk before we have to head to the hospital to get your dressings changed.”

“Sounds like a plan,” Harry said as I dashed over to talk to the director. At my thumbs-up signal, he took off for the deli up the street while I ended up doing three interviews, two spots to run during this afternoon and tonight and one to be run as a voiceover for clips of the fashion show they had put into the Monday-night broadcast of the dog show as color. I thanked them profusely and was just getting up to leave when Harry arrived with bags of food.

“I don’t know about you, but I’m starving,” he opened the first bag and sniffed. “I got you a tuna and cheese sub toasted, and me a meatball grinder.”

We quickly headed up to the room. Harry pulled the food from the bags, handing me a bottle of water and opening a can of root beer for himself. The dogs settled down with their treats as we began polishing off our picnic.

“Okay, which do we cover first? The problem, or what we know?” I said. “I’m afraid it’s all jumbled together in my brain at the moment.”

“This is where math can be your friend,” he instructed with a grin. “Let’s first list what facts we know. Later tonight, I can work on giving items on the list values and weights in helping to determine the solution.”

Now it was my turn to grin. “You sound so sexy when you talk math.”

He gazed at me for a moment, and then with a shake of his head, went on. “Right. The element that seems to be consistent through this whole thing is Zanifra. First the information Agnes was passing to the State Department concerned Zanifra. Also, Bill is handling the prince’s dog because some political something is keeping his daughter and granddaughter from leaving Zanifra. We need more information from Bill. Zanifra and Naro begin peace talks at the United Nations the middle of next week. Maybe Sadie can dig up more information on what’s at stake in that peace treaty. Why is our State Department so interested in what’s happening between a small principality and an equally small democratic republic? So far as I know neither sits in control of the world’s natural resources.”

I began ticking off items on my fingers. “Then, getting into stickier subjects, why was Sonja Kunar, a supposed dog groomer who was, in reality a bodyguard for a dog, murdered? And why was she murdered on the runway of my fashion show? Does the killer
